The brain weighs just 1.5 kilograms. And yet it can accomplish so many great things, but also fail so spectacularly. In an article by the research company Pew Research, they look back at what they asked people in 2004, and compare it with how people feel about the same subjects today. The article is filled with some interesting statistics, some quite alarming.
Ignorance tends to be widespread among 'Muricans, and it is no surprise that most Americans get their news from Orwellian websites like Facebook and other social media. Truly a gold mine for the evil elite like Mark Zuckerberg, and also to garner control and leverage over the minions. And how is it possible that 10% of Americans still don't own a smartphone? That's like 20 million adults!
Trust is a big factor in all aspects of life. Americans are now far less trusting of traditional news media - despite the latter's underwriting codes of conduct, and that can be held legally accountable when they share fake news; ask Fox - than before. Printed newspapers are on the way out, with many traditional newspapers ending up in the bankruptcy bin. That's nostalgically sad. But Americans do trust the dishonest teenager in his basement in Estonia who peddles fake news on Facebook, and his fake news website is rolling in the advertising dollars from American companies like Google. Oh, the irony. LOL.
In 1964, 3 out of 4 (77%) of Americans trusted their government, but today only 1 in 5 still trusts the government they voted for. These spell doom for democracy as a political model, and point the world into the dictatorial model of others, like that of Russia.
Eight in ten Americans today view China unfavorably, even as a threat, vastly more than 20 years ago. Yet, almost all goods in American shops now come from China, with the same Americans contracting factories there to do what US workers produced just a decade or four ago. No wonder the Republican slogan to bring back jobs to America is a hit, it's based on statistics.
Atheism grew by leaps and bounds in America over the past 20 years, while organized religions declined. Atheists tend to be more critical and ask more questions before they're willing to believe what someone says. At least that's a good thing to counter fake news and conspiracy theories.
Thanks to hit TV shows like Weeds, the popularity of damaging one's brain with marijuana grew rapidly. 70% of Americans are now okay with drawing in a gas that is not good for the brain. And I thought it was smartphones making people stupid.
