I have been using various photo editing software over the years to pet my hobby of creating memes. (Yeah, my English still sucks.) As some people know, many of my memes went viral in the past, as reverse image searches prove. Memes are still the most overlooked form of boosting a brand's image of all marketing methods.
Lately my installed version of GIMP is acting up, and to be honest, I just never liked that program much. So I surfed around, since I literally have at least 40 different photo editors installed, some of which I haven't used at all, some only once.
I came across a program called Chalk 'hiding' in a dusty corner on my computer. The software dates back from 2006, and after I installed it years ago, I tested it only once. When I started to play with it again the past week, I was amazed by how easy it really is to use this 'outdated' software.
Weirdly enough, I could not find anything about Chalk on the internet, think it's being discontinued many years ago. Not that I looked all that hard for information about it, but still, it didn't show up in Google's search results. The website URL provided in the software's About section isn't working anymore.
Chalk is similar to GIMP, with a more simple interface, and easier to use, and with a nice built-in manual. It was a product from KDE, known for their great open-source software. Maybe their Krita - that I have too - replaced it.
I created the new cover image for my Pinterest account you see above with Chalk, and I am quite happy with it. Took me mere minutes. Unfortunately, Chalk doesn't shine when it comes to text, the number of fonts and what one can do with it is somewhat limited.
If you know Chalk and have used it before, let me know what you think. BTW, the image of princess Diana on the right is with the compliments of an AI-tool. I cut it out from a photo I created of her in front of a mountain, then added it onto another AI-image you see on the cover image.
